Closed circuit television is increasingly popular in the work place because you can cut shrinkage, keep an eye on valuables, watch visitor entrances and use the recorded views as evidence if needed. Archiving has never been easier than now with a digital video recorder or DVR. Digital recording is like storing all your events on a PC so you can retrieve them at any time, right to the specific date and time or event without watching hours of tape. The data is stored on a hard drive and events are offloaded by a CD writer as a JPEG or AVI video file. Once on CD they can be played or viewed on any PC. No matter if you need color, black & white or infrared cameras what you need is available to see what you've been missing. Click on any of the links above to read more about these type of products.
Closed Circuit Cameras

Digital Video Recorders
Digital Video Recorders have made their way as the leading edge technology for recording and storing camera events. No more waiting and searching through hours of endless tape, rewinding and fast forwarding trying to catch a glimpse of what you think might have been recorded. Now all the images are stored on a hard drive like on your PC and can be recalled at an instant. DVR's can be set up to only record when the cameras see motion saving valuable hard drive space and giving you sometimes months of recording time. Storage is done by offloading to a CD or DVD sometimes built right into the recorder. They also let you view your cameras over your LAN/WAN and the Internet. More info...
Come in indoor, outdoor, black & white, color, can have integrated infrared LED's and can also be Pan, Tilt & Zoom(PTZ). Many domes are resistant to attack being made of Lexan. A few are even bullet resistant and rated to the size of the bullet it can withstand. Some domes are very small and have a single camera in it, some are large and may have a PTZ camera or 4 or more cameras in it. Some domes are smoked to hide the direction of the camera. Others are clear to show a camera presents and warn possible would be criminals "Big Brother" is watching.
Not to be confused with cameras that are bullet resistant, these cameras are small in size and have been given the name Bullet camera. These have come along way since they started out now giving much better camera resolution. They also come in black & white, Color and are often weather resistant in their own housing. They are a great alternative to much larger full bodied cameras requiring comparatively huge housings that may look obtrusive where something small is more discrete and pleasing to the eye in a nice office environment.
Concealed in enclosures that don't look like ordinary cameras these covert cameras are a great way to catch the non-suspecting person doing something they shouldn't when they think know body is looking. Though when installed in a business you must have signage that says the building is under video surveillance it is not required to say where every camera is. Pictures, clocks, teddy bears, models, speakers, photo frames, phones, exit signs...all can be good places for covert cameras.
These large cameras typically can offer better quality pictures because of the amount of circuitry they can put into the housing. Features and options can also be installed to make onboard selections to suit your immediate application for each camera. The lens is interchangeable so you can select a camera and choose the right lens for what you want to see whether close up or far away. Indoors these do not have to be put into an enclosure unless security for the camera itself is necessary. Sometimes only a mount is needed to hang it on a wall. Outdoors, housings to keep the cameras protected from the elements are necessary and sometimes heaters, blowers (fans) and sun shields are needed to keep the camera in a comfortable environment in its housing. You will probably find these cameras have the most versatility when it comes to choice, particularly in lens selection and what they can do with an image.
Illuminators let us see in the dark. The infrared light put off by the illuminators is not visible by the eye but it is to some cameras. This type of light can let a camera see in total darkness sometimes up to a few hundred feet away with the right illuminator. Some cameras like the bullet style shown above have illuminators built in and are used for close range lighting. Other illuminators are much bigger and are separate from the camera.
